The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Seattle Mariners 4-3 on Saturday night. Rookie Cooper Ingle recorded his first major league hit and drove in his first two runs.
Ingle, who was called up from Triple A Columbus and made his MLB debut the night before, came through in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded or runners in scoring position during a three run rally, he singled to right field and plated Kyle Manzardo and Khalil Watson. Cleveland had taken an early lead on a Watson RBI double one batter earlier, and Ingle’s hit extended the advantage to 3-0.
Slade Cecconi pitched six shutout innings for the Guardians. The team added another run later and held off a late Mariners push to secure the victory.
Ingle, a 24 year old catcher drafted by Cleveland in 2023 out of Clemson, had posted strong numbers in the minors this season before his promotion. His first big league hit came in his second game and helped the Guardians in their series against the AL West leading Mariners.
