The Chicago Cubs defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 8-2 on Saturday night.
David Peterson made his first start for the Cubs and earned the win. He pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed two earned runs, and struck out two. Peterson gave up a home run on his very first pitch but settled in after that.
The Cubs offense did most of its damage in the middle innings. Seiya Suzuki hit a two run homer to start the scoring. Ian Happ followed with a three run homer. Michael Conforto added a solo home run. Nico Hoerner, Alex Bregman, and others contributed RBI singles.
The Cubs improved to 45-38 with the win and evened the series against the Brewers. Chicago’s pitching kept Milwaukee in check after the early runs, and the bullpen closed out the game without allowing more damage.The two teams play the rubber match of the series on Sunday.
