The American League All-Stars held a 3-0 lead over the National League All-Stars in the bottom of the seventh inning during the 2026 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
The AL scored all three runs in the top of the first inning against NL starter Cristopher Sanchez of the Philadelphia Phillies. Cody Bellinger of the New York Yankees delivered a two run single, and Ben Rice, also of the Yankees, added an RBI single. The AL collected four hits in the inning while the NL had none through the early stages.
Dylan Cease of the Toronto Blue Jays started for the AL and kept the NL off the scoreboard. Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels struck out in his first All-Star plate appearance since 2019. The game marked the 96th edition of the Midsummer Classic and formed part of celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Pre game ceremonies included Jennifer Hudson performing “America the Beautiful” and Patti LaBelle, a Philadelphia native, singing the national anthem. The AL All-Stars featured players such as Trout, Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros, and Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals. The NL roster included Juan Soto of the New York Mets, Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies.
The AL maintained control through strong pitching and timely hitting. The NL struggled to generate offense against Cease and the AL bullpen. As the game moved into the later innings, both teams continued to make pitching changes typical of the exhibition format.
